UNDP is the Principal Recipient of the next phase of the Global Fund Grant

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Currently the Republic of Uzbekistan is preparing the Request for renewal to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria for Phase 2 (2014-2016) of the HIV Project.
On 27 June, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting of the Multisectorial Expert Council on HIV, TB and Malaria (MEC).
According to the MEC decision, UNDP once more was honored to receive the trust and confidence of the Government of Uzbekistan to continue the role of the interim Principal Recipient in the Phase 2.
Moreover, in order to ensure sustainability of the initiatives to combat HIV and enable scale up of treatment for people, living with HIV, the Government of Uzbekistan has committed US$2 million for procurement of antiretroviral drugs in 2014-2015.
By decision of the MEC meeting, UNDP was entrusted to make the procurement of antiretroviral drugs for the funds, allocated by the Government to complement the grant resources.
The draft proposal presented by UNDP was developed through the use of an inclusive approach that takes into account country needs, recommendations of the mid-term assessment, and inputs of all parties involved - Government, UNDP and project partners.
The activities of the Phase 2, with the overall budget of US$27 million have been tailored to ensure focus on scale-up of activities on HIV prevention among most at risk populations, and universal coverage with treatment, care and support services.
