Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Oman began final stage of procedures on implementation of the project on creation of international transport and transit corridor Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Ali Mardani Fard said on 10 February at the press conference in Tashkent.
Iranian envoy recalled that the Governments of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Oman signed an agreement on creation of international transport and transit corridor. He said that the final stage of procedures of implementation of the agreement is underway.
According to the envoy, the participants of the project were planning to launch the corridor in 2013, but Qatar pulled out the project and this impacted the plans.
Mardani Fard Ali said Iran and Oman ratified the agreement. He said that exit of Qatar from the project will not impact to project realization. The project will be implemented.
Currently, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Oman are revising the agreement in the context of exit of Qatar from the project. After agreement revised, signed and ratified, the sides can start to implement the project.
Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Oman and Qatar signed an agreement on creation of new international transport corridor, linking Central Asia with Persian Gulf, on 25 April 2011.
Foreign Ministers of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Oman and Qatar inked the document in Ashgabat, capital city of Turkmenistan.
The new transport corridor will run from Uzbekistan across Turkmenistan and then to the Gulf via Iran, bypassing Afghanistan.
According to the Uzbek side, the establishment of railway road communication from Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan to southern ports of Iran will help to create important transport network among the countries of Persian and Oman Gulfs and all Central Asian states.
