Uzbekistan plans to attract US$426.7m grants in 2009-2011

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan plans to attract grants for US$426.7 million in 2009-2011 from international and economic institutions, as well as donor-countries to realization of priority projects on development of economy and social spheres.
Uzbek President Islam Karimov signed a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers “On measures on further expansion of grant no-string technical assistance to Uzbekistan.”
Uzbekistan plans to attract US$66.7 million of grants till the end of 2009 to realize 21 projects. The country plans to attract grants for US$359 million on 176 projects in 2010-2011.
In 2009, Uzbekistan plans to attract US$38 million grants of NEDO to purchase equipment for construction of gas-turbine unit at Tashkent heat-electric generating plant and US$ million sponsorship aid from Sheikh Muhammad bin Rashid al Maktum (UAE) for completion of Bukhara city airport construction.
Uzbekistan plans to attract US$122 million into healthcare, US$20.6 million for education, training and re-training of specialists, and US$11.1 million to protect and rehabilitation of vulnerable layers of population in 2010-2011.
