Russia extends stay for Uzbek drivers to 180 days limit

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev has announced a decision by the Government of the Russian Federation aimed at supporting the transport and logistics sector and exporters.

Under the new rule, professional drivers will be allowed to stay in Russia for up to 180 days per calendar year, instead of the previous limit of 90 days.

The changes will take effect on 30 June 2026 and will apply to professional drivers from Uzbekistan, other CIS countries, and Georgia operating international road transport under a visa-free regime.

According to Khodjaev, road transport plays a key role in Uzbek exports, including agricultural goods, food products, construction materials, and other commodities.

The reduction of administrative restrictions is expected to ensure more stable logistics chains, regularity of deliveries, and increased competitiveness of national producers in external markets.

The issue was repeatedly raised by the business community in the first quarter of 2026 during open dialogue meetings of the government commission, including discussions with exporters of fruit and vegetables, food industry products, and construction materials. At that time, it was noted that the initiative was being worked out at the intergovernmental level with the participation of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the Russian Federation.

To apply the new procedure, drivers will be required to submit a relevant application for entry and stay in Russia.

Authorities say the decision will improve predictability in logistics processes, reduce the risk of supply disruptions, and expand opportunities for sustainable export flows.
