Uzbekistan and Georgia Expand Agricultural Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Minister of Agriculture Ibrahim Abdurakhmanov held talks in Baku with Georgia’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Davit Songulashvili as part of the Uzbek delegation’s working visit to Azerbaijan.

The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in the agricultural sector.

The sides noted the steady development of bilateral trade and economic relations and stressed the need to make more effective use of existing potential to increase mutual trade turnover.

Particular attention during the talks was given to promising areas of cooperation, including diversification of agricultural production. Priority areas identified included the development of olive cultivation, viticulture and winemaking, as well as the expansion of tea production and the introduction of subtropical crops.

The parties also discussed the development of fisheries, digitalization of phytosanitary systems, improvement of logistics chains, and enhancement of agricultural export capacity. In addition, they reviewed opportunities to expand cooperation in education and science, including the introduction of elements of dual education programs.

Following the meeting, Uzbekistan and Georgia agreed to prepare joint projects and develop a roadmap for further cooperation.

The sides also plan to sign relevant agreements and establish working groups for the practical implementation of the agreements reached.
