Uzbekistan Joins OIC Food Security Charter in Baku
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has officially joined the Charter of the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS) in Baku, Azerbaijan, on the sidelines of international events, according to official reports.
The document was signed on behalf of the government by Minister of Agriculture Ibrahim Abdurakhmanov.
Accession to the charter is aimed at strengthening cooperation among member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in the field of food security and sustainable agricultural development. The document provides for the creation of a common platform for interaction, the expansion of joint initiatives, and the coordination of efforts in the agricultural sector.
The organization’s charter was adopted in 2013 and is focused on pooling resources of member states, developing the exchange of technologies and best practices, and attracting investment into agriculture. Its implementation is viewed as a tool for improving the resilience of food systems in participating countries.
The signing by Uzbekistan is expected to strengthen multilateral cooperation with OIC member states in agriculture and expand the country’s participation in international initiatives.
In addition, the move is seen as a contribution to global efforts to address food security challenges, including the impacts of climate change, desertification, soil salinization, and risks of food crises.
