Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A new round of negotiations between representatives of the Ministries of Energy of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan took place in Tashkent from April 28 to 30, 2026, focusing on a draft intergovernmental agreement for the construction of the Kambarata Hydropower Plant-1.

The Kambarata HPP-1 project is considered one of the key strategic energy initiatives in Central Asia. Its implementation is aimed at the rational use of regional water and energy resources and the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in the energy sector.

According to the presented data, the project envisages the construction of a modern hydropower plant on the Naryn River in Kyrgyzstan with an installed capacity of 1,880 MW. Its implementation is expected to strengthen regional energy security, improve the resilience of energy systems, and expand the share of green energy.

The talks were attended by representatives of relevant government agencies and sectoral organizations from both countries. Representatives of the World Bank also participated as observers, as the institution is considered one of the key international financial partners of the project.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to continue work on aligning the provisions of the intergovernmental agreement and further developing cooperation on the project.
