Uzbekistan President meets OSCE Secretary General in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Feridun Sinirlioğlu, who arrived in the country on an official visit, on 21 May.

During the meeting, the sides reviewed issues of further development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the OSCE in economic-environmental, political, and humanitarian areas.

Satisfaction was expressed with the high level of open and constructive dialogue, as well as the consistent strengthening of Uzbekistan’s interaction with the OSCE and its specialized institutions. It was noted that the organization’s leadership regularly visits Uzbekistan, and OSCE/ODIHR missions participate in monitoring electoral processes in the country.

Special attention was given to the results of joint projects in areas including countering transnational threats, judicial and legal reform, promoting gender equality, protecting human rights, and developing media.

The sides also emphasized the need to expand cooperation in priority areas, including countering cybercrime, advancing digitalization and artificial intelligence technologies, improving staff qualifications, supporting youth, and promoting the green agenda.

Following the talks, an agreement was reached to prepare a new roadmap for cooperation and to hold a series of joint events in Uzbekistan and at OSCE platforms.

An exchange of views was also held on current issues on the regional and international agenda.
