Uzbekistan President Sends Condolences to China
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has sent condolences to President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping following the tragic consequences of an explosion at an industrial facility in China’s Hunan province, the Uzbek presidency said.
The head of state expressed sympathy to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
According to Chinese state media, the explosion occurred at the Huasheng fireworks factory in Liuyang city on Monday at around 16:40 local time.
Authorities said around 1,500 people were mobilized for search-and-rescue operations and assistance to the injured. Robots were deployed to locate people trapped under debris, and seven people were rescued, according to preliminary data.
It was noted that two warehouses containing gunpowder were located at the site, which complicated rescue efforts due to heightened danger levels. Authorities also organized the evacuation of residents within a three-kilometer radius of the incident site.
Updated figures from China’s CCTV television reported that 26 people were killed and 61 others were injured in the explosion. Rescue operations and investigations into the cause of the incident are ongoing.
