Ferghana Region and Latvia Discuss Farm Development Project
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation led by Ieva Jaunzeme, an industry attaché from the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Latvia, has visited Uzbekistan’s Ferghana region on a working trip. During the visit, talks were held with Deputy Governor Nuriddin Mamajanov focused on the development of cooperation in the agricultural sector.
The parties discussed prospects for implementing the project titled “Strengthening the economic potential and efficiency of small and medium-sized farming enterprises in Uzbekistan,” funded by the European Union. The initiative aims to increase the income of small agricultural producers, expand their participation in value chains, and develop cooperative farming in the agricultural sector.
The project is planned for the period 2026–2028 and will be implemented in regions of Uzbekistan through the Latvian Financial and Contracting Agency (CFCA). It includes the introduction of European, particularly Latvian, experience in the development of agricultural cooperatives.
During the talks, the investment attractiveness of Ferghana region was noted, along with ongoing economic reforms and improved conditions for doing business. The parties also discussed the possibility of implementing pilot projects in the region.
Both sides positively assessed prospects for developing areas such as rose cultivation, raspberry production, greenhouse farming, and more efficient use of household plots.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue cooperation and further develop practical steps for collaboration in the agricultural sector.
