Rosatom presents integrated nuclear plant concept in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom presented technologies for integrated nuclear power plants and electric mobility solutions at the international exhibition and conference “Power Uzbekistan 2026,” held in Tashkent from 12 to 14 May. The event brought together more than 14,500 representatives of the energy sector from 12 countries.

At Rosatom’s exhibition stand, the company showcased technological solutions in nuclear energy and electric mobility, including models of an integrated nuclear power plant based on RITM-200N and VVER-1000 reactors.

The proposed concept of an integrated nuclear power plant envisions the construction of both a small modular nuclear plant and a large-scale nuclear power plant at a single site. According to the company’s estimates, once completed, the configuration could cover up to 14% of Uzbekistan’s electricity demand.

Visitors were also presented with electric mobility solutions, including lithium-ion cells, battery modules, and universal energy storage systems.

Rosatom said its projects cover the entire technological chain of the industry—from raw material extraction and component manufacturing to charging infrastructure and recycling of used batteries.

Special attention was given to the development of energy storage manufacturing infrastructure. At the end of 2025, Rosatom commissioned its first pilot industrial “gigafactory” for lithium-ion energy storage systems in the Kaliningrad region. Preparations are also underway to launch a second production facility in Moscow.

Head of Rosatom Central Asia Alexey Dremuchev said that concrete works began in March 2026 at the construction site of the nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan. He noted that around 900 cubic meters of concrete have been poured so far, and one of the key milestones this year will be the pouring of the “first concrete” for the reactor building foundation slab.

He said the project being implemented in Uzbekistan will serve as an important foundation for the country’s long-term socio-economic development.

According to him, nuclear energy is seen as a reliable source of baseload electricity generation, while the country’s energy strategy aims to balance nuclear, thermal, and renewable energy sources, increasing the importance of energy storage systems.

The company also expressed readiness to expand cooperation with Uzbekistan in electric mobility technologies and modern energy solutions.
