Russia Offers Support for China–Central Asia Railway
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Russia has expressed readiness to provide technical support to Kyrgyzstan in the implementation of the large-scale railway project linking China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
The statement was made in Bishkek by Russia’s Deputy Minister of Transport, Dmitry Zverev.
According to TASS, Russia could contribute to the project through technology transfer, specialist training and the supply of rolling stock.
Zverev noted that Kyrgyzstan, as a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, is bound by existing railway standards and technical regulations, which need to be taken into account in the implementation of such infrastructure initiatives.
He подчеркнул that the development of transport infrastructure in Central Asia and across the broader Eurasian space contributes to increased cargo flows and has a positive impact on regional economic activity.
The agreement on the construction of the railway between Kyrgyzstan, China and Uzbekistan was signed in 2024, and the project is currently underway.
The new railway is seen as a southern branch of the Eurasian continental transport corridor, expected to provide access to markets in Southeast and West Asia, as well as the Middle East and Europe.
The route will enable cargo transportation from China through Kyrgyzstan to Central Asian countries, and further toward Türkiye and the European Union.
The total length of the railway will exceed 500 kilometers, with approximately 300 kilometers running through Kyrgyzstan’s territory.
