Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  During his working visit to St. Petersburg, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

The two leaders reviewed current issues related to the further expansion and strengthening of the Uzbek-Russian relationship of comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance.

They noted with satisfaction the positive dynamics of trade and economic cooperation. According to the results of the first months of the year, bilateral trade increased by 20 percent.

Particular attention was paid to the implementation of joint projects in industry, energy, metallurgy, transport, the chemical sector, and other priority areas of the economy. The leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining high growth rates in trade turnover, accelerating cooperation projects, and further expanding interregional ties.

The sides also discussed the development of cultural and humanitarian cooperation. It was noted that, as part of the cultural program in St. Petersburg, the opera “Tamerlano” by George Frideric Handel premiered at the Mariinsky Theatre, while an exhibition of Uzbek applied arts opened at the State Hermitage Museum.

Following the meeting, the leaders exchanged views on the schedule of upcoming bilateral and multilateral events and reaffirmed their mutual interest in deepening cooperation across all key areas.
