Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan Move to Clear Border Bottlenecks

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have agreed to tighten cross-border coordination after customs officials from both countries identified congestion at shared border checkpoints as a growing operational challenge.

Representatives of Uzbekistan's Customs Committee and Kazakhstan's State Revenue Committee held online negotiations focused on improving the efficiency of joint border and customs posts, according to official statements from both sides.

The talks centered on three operational priorities: preventing the formation of bottlenecks at crossing points, accelerating the passage of vehicles and citizens, and increasing the throughput capacity of border infrastructure.

Participants reviewed the current situation at border posts and discussed rapid-response mechanisms for periods of peak traffic flow — a recurring pressure point along one of Central Asia's busiest bilateral trade corridors.

The two sides reached concrete agreements on strengthening coordination between relevant services, establishing real-time information exchange, and mobilizing additional resources when traffic volumes require it.

Both customs bodies confirmed their readiness to continue joint work on improving traffic flow management, preventing queuing at the border, and creating more favorable conditions for both citizens and business representatives.
