Uzbekistan and Russia Discuss Parliamentary Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting was held in Moscow between Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matviyenko and Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva, during which the sides discussed the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation and interaction within international platforms.

Valentina Matviyenko thanked the Uzbek side for participation in the session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and highly appreciated the work of Uzbek parliamentarians within the organization. She also emphasized the importance of Uzbekistan’s decision to join the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly in 2018.

According to Matviyenko, relations between Russia and Uzbekistan are characterized by a comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance. She separately noted the visit of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Moscow and his participation in events dedicated to May 9, as well as the attention of the Uzbek side to veterans and the Blockade of Leningrad survivors.

The meeting also addressed the international humanitarian project “Train of Memory,” which is supported by Uzbekistan.

Tanzila Narbayeva, in turn, stressed the importance of promoting historical memory among young people. She also spoke about the holding of the Second Asian Women’s Forum in Bukhara.

The sides discussed the development of interaction between legislators of the two countries, including within the commission on cooperation between the upper chambers of parliament, as well as the expansion of interregional ties.

Valentina Matviyenko noted that more than 80 constituent entities of the Russian Federation cooperate with regions of Uzbekistan.
