Uzbekistan and South Korea Launch New Phase of Aquaculture Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Cooperation between Uzbekistan and South Korea in the field of aquaculture is entering a new stage. From May 26 to 31, a delegation comprising representatives of the “Uzbekbaliksanoat” Association and researchers from the Research Institute of Fisheries visited the Republic of Korea on a working trip.

During the visit, meetings were held with representatives of the Jeju provincial administration, the Jeju Fish-Culture Fisheries Cooperative, the Jeju Fisheries Research Institute, and leading companies in the sector.

The Jeju Fish-Culture Fisheries Cooperative is one of South Korea’s leading fisheries cooperatives and specializes in the cultivation, processing and export of marine fish. Member companies have extensive experience in farming olive flounder, implementing eco-smart aquaculture technologies, processing fish products, disease control in aquaculture, and producing fish feed using modern equipment.

During the negotiations, the sides discussed the development of aquaculture in Uzbekistan, the potential for cultivating marine fish species under local conditions, the introduction of modern technologies and scientific innovations, and the training and capacity-building of industry specialists.

The delegation also studied fish farming facilities on Jeju Island, marine aquaculture farms, laboratories, and fish feed production enterprises.

As a result of the visit, the Uzbekbaliksanoat Association, the Research Institute of Fisheries, and the Jeju Aquaculture Cooperative signed a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding.

The main goal of the document is to conduct joint research on the cultivation of olive flounder (Olive Flounder) under Uzbekistan’s conditions, implement promising projects, adapt marine species, attract qualified specialists, exchange expertise, and carry out joint scientific research activities.

The implementation of the agreements is expected to contribute to the development of aquaculture in Uzbekistan and strengthen the country’s food security.
