Uzbekistan Orders 8 Hyundai Rotem High-Speed Trains for New Routes
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan and Hyundai Rotem Align on Eight High-Speed Trains for Tashkent–Andijan and Tashkent–Termez Routes
Uzbekistan's national railway operator and South Korean rolling stock manufacturer Hyundai Rotem have advanced talks on the delivery of eight high-speed electric trains, to be deployed on two major domestic corridors — Tashkent–Andijan and Tashkent–Termez — following negotiations held in the Republic of Korea.
The meeting brought together Sharofiddin Kadyrov, Chief Engineer of JSC Uzbekiston Temir Yullari, Transport Ministry representative Anvar Dushaev, and Hyundai Rotem President Lee Yong-bae. Discussions covered both the status of existing cooperation and the technical specifications for the new trainset procurement.
A specific agenda item was the ongoing delivery project for the "Jaloliddin Manguberdi" high-speed electric train, already earmarked for the Uzbek national railway. Parties used the talks to align on the technical parameters governing the broader order of eight modern high-speed trainsets.
Both sides confirmed their intention to press ahead with the partnership and ensure continued delivery on joint projects aimed at expanding Uzbekistan's railway infrastructure.
The new routes would extend high-speed rail connectivity to the densely populated Fergana Valley via the Andijan corridor, and southward to the Afghan border region via Termez — two strategically significant links for passenger mobility and regional trade.
