Uzbekistan Strengthens Cooperation on Labor Migration

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A series of meetings aimed at expanding Uzbekistan’s international cooperation in labor migration, legal employment, and the protection of citizens’ rights abroad were held in Tashkent on 18–19 May 2026 as part of the Tashkent International Migration Forum.

During the event, Deputy Governor of Tashkent Region Otabek Sultanbekov and head of the regional branch of the Migration Agency Yusuf Kabuljanov held talks with Valery Zhigunov, a representative of the Republic of Belarus.

The parties discussed the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in labor migration, including issues of legal and safe employment for citizens, safeguarding their rights and interests, and ensuring decent working and living conditions abroad.

Special attention was given to talks with Yulia Kosareva, a representative of Leningrad Region of the Russian Federation. Participants exchanged views on regional labor market needs, training of qualified personnel, expanding opportunities for legal employment, and strengthening social protection for migrant workers. The need to share experience in organizing safe and orderly labor migration was also emphasized.

As a result of the discussions, a number of agreements and contracts were signed to strengthen cooperation in the migration sphere. The documents provide for the development of mechanisms for legal employment and enhanced collaboration in protecting the rights of migrant workers.

Authorities noted that the agreements reached are important for increasing employment, creating safe channels for labor migration, and further strengthening Uzbekistan’s international ties in the field of labor resources.
