WTA and Uzbekistan discuss tourism cooperation opportunities
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Within the framework of the international tourism exhibition ITB China, the Chairman of the Tourism Committee, Abdulaziz Akkulov, held a meeting with the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Alliance, Zheng Hao.
The World Tourism Alliance (WTA) is an international non-governmental and non-profit organization in the tourism sector that promotes broad cooperation between states, the private sector, and stakeholders in the tourism industry.
During the talks, the parties discussed the implementation of joint projects with the WTA aimed at broadly promoting Uzbekistan’s tourism potential on the international stage, including further strengthening the positions of historic cities such as Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva in global tourism routes.
In addition, opportunities were considered to attract foreign investment and new tourism projects to Uzbekistan through the WTA platform. Initiatives were also proposed to develop ecological, pilgrimage, and gastronomic tourism based on international cooperation.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to actively involve more than 260 national tourism organizations, airlines, hotel chains, and major tourism companies that are part of the WTA in projects being implemented in Uzbekistan, as well as to jointly hold events dedicated to promoting the Silk Road.
It was emphasized that strengthening Uzbekistan’s ties with global tourism organizations will further enhance the country’s international image. This, in turn, is expected to not only increase tourist inflows but also create new jobs and contribute to regional economic development.
