Bukhara Traffic Officer Hits Girl at Crosswalk
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Vabkent district of Uzbekistan’s Bukhara region, a road traffic accident occurred on April 27 involving an officer from the regional Department of Road Safety, who struck a minor girl at a pedestrian crossing. The incident took place at around 09:05 on one of the district’s streets.
According to the Department of Road Safety, the 17-year-old girl was crossing the road at a designated pedestrian crossing when she was hit by a car. She sustained minor bodily injuries. The agency said the driver personally transported the victim to a medical facility for first aid.
It was also clarified that the driver was an employee of the Department of Road Safety and was not on duty at the time of the incident. Authorities said he was sober and possessed all necessary documents permitting him to drive.
The district prosecutor’s office has launched a preliminary investigation into the incident to establish all circumstances and provide a legal assessment of the actions of those involved.
The Department of Road Safety separately called on the public not to spread unverified information on social media, saying claims that the case was being “covered up” were not true. The agency also said an investigation has been initiated into the individual who disseminated such claims.
