Mirziyoyev Reviews New Initiatives for Defence and Military Education

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on current priorities in the development of the defence sector, the improvement of military education and the strengthening of the country’s Armed Forces.

It was noted that in recent years, under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Uzbekistan, large-scale reforms have been implemented to strengthen the country’s defence capabilities, enhance combat readiness and ensure reliable protection of its airspace.

Particular attention is being paid to the modernisation of the Air Defence Forces and the Air Force. As part of the reforms, military units are being equipped with modern aircraft, advanced air defence systems and unmanned aerial vehicles. The scale of practical flight training and combat readiness exercises for aviation units has also been significantly expanded.

One of the key topics of the presentation was the training of highly qualified national personnel for the aviation branch of the Armed Forces.

At the initiative of the president, the Military Aviation Institute of the University of Public Security and Defence in Karshi has been modernised in line with international educational standards. The institution has been equipped with modern simulators, modelling tools and simulation systems, enabling cadets to effectively combine theoretical instruction with practical training.

Future military pilots develop their practical skills at the Khanabad airfield under the guidance of experienced specialists. Training actively incorporates a mentorship approach based on the “mentor-student” principle.

The presentation also reviewed proposals for introducing a new airspace protection system and reorganising aviation units in line with modern requirements and security challenges.

The implementation of these measures is expected to enhance the combat capabilities of the Air Force, improve troop mobility and response times, and strengthen the ability to counter contemporary threats.

A separate part of the presentation focused on the development of cooperation with Türkiye in the field of military medicine. During President Mirziyoyev’s visit to Türkiye in January this year, the governments of the two countries signed an agreement on cooperation in military medicine and medical education.

Under the agreement, specialists will be trained in general medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, preventive medicine and advanced nursing education. The programme will also include master's and postgraduate studies, as well as retraining and professional development courses for military doctors.

The two sides also plan to expand cooperation in research, hold joint seminars, congresses and symposiums, organise exchanges of teachers, researchers and students, and develop collaboration in the establishment of medical institutions and the joint treatment of patients.

The presentation included proposals to digitalise conscript registration procedures and the activities of medical and draft commissions. These measures are aimed at increasing transparency, efficiency and convenience for citizens accessing related services.

In addition, initiatives were reviewed to gradually increase the salaries of civilian employees of defence agencies and raise monthly housing rental compensation for military personnel in Tashkent and Samarkand.
