Tashkent clarifies reports of flooding at Chorsu metro station
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The State Unitary Enterprise “Tashkent Metro” and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations commented on social media reports claiming that the Chorsu metro station in the capital had been flooded.
According to the metro operator, the incident occurred on 3 May amid heavy rainfall recorded in Tashkent. The agency said that due to overload and the untimely cleaning of irrigation and drainage systems in certain parts of the city, rainwater accumulated, and part of it temporarily entered the area of Chorsu station.
Tashkent Metro emphasized that underground facilities undergo regular scheduled technical inspections in accordance with established procedures. It also noted that official requests had previously been sent to relevant organizations and the city administration regarding the need to prevent such situations and improve drainage infrastructure.
The operator stated that the situation is now fully under control, necessary measures have been taken, and work to ensure safe and stable operation of the station is ongoing. The metro continues to operate in normal mode.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan separately reported that the heavy rainfall did not affect the functioning of Chorsu station. According to the ministry, a significant portion of the water drained naturally through the irrigation and drainage system.
To prevent possible water accumulation, emergency response teams from the Main Department for Emergency Situations in Tashkent were deployed to the site. The ministry stressed that the metro station continues to operate normally, with train services running according to schedule.
