Uzbekistan, Japan expand financial cooperation talks

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks in Samarkand with a Japanese delegation led by Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama on the sidelines of the Asian Development Bank Board of Governors meeting.

The meeting was also attended by Nobumitsu Hayashi, Governor of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, and Masao Yahara, Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The Japanese side conveyed greetings and best wishes from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to the President of Uzbekistan.

Both sides noted that the President of Uzbekistan’s visit to Japan in December 2025 opened a new stage in the development of bilateral relations. During the talks, they highlighted positive momentum in economic cooperation, including growing trade turnover and the implementation of major investment projects involving Japanese companies.

The President of Uzbekistan put forward initiatives to modernize the financial system, proposing the introduction of artificial intelligence technologies in treasury operations, as well as advancing the digital transformation of the financial sector and training qualified specialists.

Following the talks, the parties agreed to accelerate the implementation of projects in socially significant areas, including renewable energy, healthcare, information technology, transport, and agriculture.
