Uzbekistan Denies Cancellation of E-Prescription

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Health has denied reports circulating on social media claiming the cancellation of the “Electronic Prescription” system, clarifying that current regulatory proposals are aimed at expanding, not abolishing, the platform.

The confusion arose from a draft legal document published for public discussion under the title “On recognizing as invalid the order on the phased introduction of the ‘Electronic Prescription’ system.” According to the ministry, interpretations suggesting a rollback of the system are incorrect.

Officials emphasized that the ministry’s order dated December 15, 2025, No. 25 предусматривает a phased development of the list of medicines to be dispensed via electronic prescriptions. At the initial stage, mandatory use of the system applies to systemic antibiotics, synthetic antibacterial drugs and hormonal medications.

The draft order under discussion предусматривает further expansion of the digital system. It outlines a full transition to electronic prescriptions in medical institutions and pharmacies in Tashkent, as well as in 15 pilot districts and cities participating in the experimental program.

At the same time, certain exceptions will remain in place, including for specific categories of potent drugs, medicines containing narcotic and psychotropic substances, and procedures related to reimbursement programs.

The Ministry of Health stressed that the system continues to be implemented gradually and is part of broader efforts to digitalize the pharmaceutical sector and improve transparency in the circulation of medicines.
