Uzbekistan driver exceeds 12 penalty points limit
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has recorded the first case of a driver exceeding the established threshold of 12 penalty points. According to relevant services, the driver accumulated 12.5 points within one year, and the case has been referred to court.
Following judicial review, the driver may be deprived of the right to operate a vehicle. The individual confirmed that he did not believe in the practical enforcement of the penalty points system until he was summoned to a road safety department and shown the recorded violations in the system.
He stated that the system is fully operational and urged other drivers to strictly follow traffic regulations in order to avoid similar consequences.
In addition, authorities reported that 11 other drivers across different regions of the country have accumulated between 8 and 10 penalty points. Five such cases were recorded in Tashkent, three in Surkhandarya region, and one each in Namangan, Samarkand, and Tashkent regions.
The penalty points system has been in force since June 1, 2025, and is applied based on protocols issued by road patrol officers under 12 articles of the Code of Administrative Responsibility. Since April 1, 2026, violations recorded by automated monitoring systems have also been included. These include running red lights, illegal stopping and parking, driving in the oncoming lane, and speeding.
Drivers receiving 8 penalty points are sent an SMS warning notification. If the 12-point threshold is exceeded, the issue of license suspension is considered by the court.
