Uzbekistan Establishes International Uzbek Language Olympiad
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Government of Uzbekistan has approved regulations for holding the International Uzbek Language Olympiad named after Alisher Navoi. The relevant decree was adopted on 18 May 2026, under number 250 and defines the procedures for organizing and conducting the competition.
The Olympiad is established for school students aged 14 to 18 living abroad. Participation is voluntary and is provided in both individual and team formats, including the possibility of online participation.
According to the approved procedure, the international competition will be held annually until October and will consist of two stages. The first stage includes a test of 30 questions with a total score of 50 points. The second stage requires participants to write a creative essay on one of the topics selected by lottery from a list prepared by the jury.
National teams of foreign countries will be formed with up to six participants and one team leader. Up to three teams from each country will be allowed, expanding the geographic reach and participation of the competition.
Winners and prize recipients will be awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals, as well as diplomas and commemorative gifts.
The establishment of the Olympiad is seen as part of efforts to promote the Uzbek language abroad and strengthen cultural and educational ties with compatriots living overseas.
