Uzbekistan extradites two wanted citizens from Türkiye

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Two Uzbek citizens wanted internationally on charges of fraud and human trafficking have been extradited to Uzbekistan following joint operational and investigative measures carried out by the law enforcement agencies of Uzbekistan and Türkiye.

According to law enforcement authorities, one of the detainees had been hiding abroad for six years after allegedly committing fraud.

Investigators said he promised to arrange employment in the United States and European countries despite lacking a licence to recruit citizens for overseas work.

After gaining the trust of victims, the suspect allegedly obtained their money and used it for personal purposes.

A criminal case has been opened against the extradited individual under Article 168 of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code, which covers fraud.

In a separate case, another Uzbek citizen was detained in Türkiye and returned to Uzbekistan. He had been wanted on charges under Article 135 of the Criminal Code, which relates to human trafficking.

Law enforcement authorities said that cooperation between Uzbekistan and Türkiye continues to facilitate efforts to locate, detain and extradite other individuals on international wanted lists.

The authorities also stressed that attempting to evade justice by leaving the country does not exempt individuals from criminal liability and that all persons who commit crimes will be held accountable in accordance with the law.
