Uzbekistan Warns of Possible Mudflows in Nine Regions

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Hydrometeorological Service (UzHydromet) has warned of possible mudflows and flood events in mountainous and foothill areas across nine regions of the country between 23 and 25 May, citing expected heavy rainfall.

According to the agency, adverse hydrometeorological conditions may affect several districts in Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, Samarkand, Navoi, Jizzakh, Tashkent, Namangan, Ferghana and Andijan regions.

In Kashkadarya region, at-risk districts include Yakkabog, Dekhkanabad, Chirakchi, Kitab, Shahrisabz, Kamashi and Guzar. In Surkhandarya region, the affected areas are Sariosiyo, Uzun, Altynsay, Denau, Baysun, Sherabad, Shurchi, Kumkurgan and Muzrabad.

In Samarkand region, the warning applies to Urgut, Samarkand, Bulungur, Nurabad, Koshrabot, Kattakurgan, Payarik, Jambay and Ishtikhon districts. In Navoi region, it includes Khatyrchi, Navbahor, Nurata, Kanimekh and Karmana districts.

In Jizzakh region, the list includes Zamin, Bakhmal, Gallaaral, Sharaf-Rashidov, Farish and Yangiabad districts. In Tashkent region, it covers Akhangaran, Bostanlyk, Parkent, Pskent, Urtachirchik and Yukorichirchik districts, as well as the cities of Angren and Almalyk.

In Namangan region, potential risks are forecast in Pap, Kasansay, Chartak, Chust, Namangan and Yangikurgan districts. In Ferghana region, the warning applies to Sokh, Ferghana and Besharyk districts, as well as Shahimardan. In Andijan region, risks are expected in Andijan, Asaka, Jalakuduk, Kurgantepa, Pakhtaabad, Izbaskan, Khojaabad, Marhamat districts and the city of Khanabad.

UzHydromet also reported that in some areas, accumulation of rainwater and localized flooding may occur. Residents of mountainous and foothill regions, as well as drivers and tourists, have been urged to take precautionary measures.

According to the forecast, rain is expected across the country over the weekend, with heavy showers in some areas and possible thunderstorms.
