Uzbekistan’s Green Energy Capacity Reaches 8 GW
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s total installed capacity of renewable energy facilities has reached 8 gigawatts, according to official data on the development of the country’s energy sector.
Current indicators show that “green” energy accounts for around 30% of total electricity generation. Of the total capacity, 5.6 GW comes from solar and wind power plants, while hydropower contributes a further 2.4 GW.
Since the beginning of the year, solar and wind power plants have generated more than 4.7 billion kWh of electricity. Including hydropower, total output has exceeded 7.6 billion kWh.
In 2025, solar and wind generation amounted to 10.4 billion kWh, resulting in savings of approximately 3 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
Authorities say the expansion of renewable energy is aimed at replacing traditional fuels and ensuring more environmentally friendly and cost-efficient power generation.
According to expert estimates, the country has a technical potential of up to 3,000 GW of solar energy and more than 500 GW of wind capacity. Under current government plans, total renewable energy capacity is expected to reach 20 GW by 2030.
It is also reported that solar panels have been installed in more than 75,000 households. As a result, around 820 million kWh of electricity has been supplied to the grid. More than 31,000 legal entities are also participating in distributed generation programs, contributing nearly 1 billion kWh of electricity to the system.
