Belgium to Open Embassy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The government of Belgium has decided to open an embassy in Tashkent, marking a significant step in the development of bilateral relations with Uzbekistan, according to reports.
The decision was reported by the Uzbek news agency Dunyo News Agency, citing Belgian publications EU Reporter and EU Reflect.
The opening of the diplomatic mission is expected to mark a new phase in Uzbekistan–Belgium cooperation and to elevate political dialogue and practical engagement between the two countries to a higher level.
Diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Belgium were established in 1992. Since 1995, Uzbekistan has maintained an embassy in Brussels, which manages relations with Belgium as well as engagement with European Union institutions.
According to Belgian media reports, cooperation between the two countries has intensified in recent years, supported by economic reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at liberalizing the economy, improving the investment climate, and expanding international cooperation.
At present, Uzbekistan and Belgium continue to expand cooperation in trade, investment, logistics, industry, education, and tourism. Interparliamentary exchanges and regular contacts between government and business representatives have also contributed to strengthening bilateral ties.
Observers note that Belgium’s decision reflects growing European interest in Central Asia and in strengthening partnerships with Uzbekistan as a key regional state.
The opening of the embassy is expected to further enhance political and economic cooperation, increase bilateral trade and investment, and support the development of joint projects between the two countries.
