Mirziyoyev Discusses New Projects With UNFPA Chief

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks on May 13 with Diene Keita, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), who is on an official visit to the country, the presidential press service said.

At the beginning of the meeting, the UNFPA representative conveyed greetings and best wishes to the Uzbek leader from United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

The sides discussed the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNFPA in key areas of demographic and social policy. It was noted during the meeting that cooperation with the fund has reached a new level in recent years.

Special attention was given to joint projects in reproductive health, gender equality, and ensuring demographic sustainability. The meeting also highlighted UNFPA’s involvement in organizing Uzbekistan’s first-ever population and agricultural census.

The parties further emphasized the results of programs aimed at maternal and child health, support for young families, and expanding the rights and opportunities of women.

At the conclusion of the talks, the sides agreed to further expand their partnership, including the launch of new initiatives under the country cooperation program and the organization of high-level joint events both in Uzbekistan and at United Nations platforms.
