Uzbekistan Expands Social Benefits for Military Personnel

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has approved in the first reading a draft law “On the Status of Military Personnel and Their Social Protection,” which establishes an expanded package of state guarantees for servicemen and their family members. The lower house of parliament’s press service reported the development.

The document formalizes key areas of social support for military personnel, including financial provisions, medical care, housing guarantees, mandatory state insurance, pension coverage, and compensation in cases of injury or death while performing official duties.

A separate section of the draft law is aimed at expanding benefits for retired servicemen. In particular, citizens discharged from military service with at least 20 years of service will be entitled to receive discounted sanatorium treatment vouchers once a year.

Under the proposed rules, servicemen will pay 25% of the cost of such vouchers, while the remaining 75% will be covered by the state budget funds of the relevant ministries and agencies.

In addition, the draft law provides for an annual financial assistance payment of up to 100 base calculation units, equivalent to 41.2 million soums.

Lawmakers said the initiative is intended to strengthen the social protection of military personnel, reinforce the legal status of military service, and increase its prestige. The bill is also viewed as a mechanism to enhance state guarantees for servicemen and their families.
