Mirziyoyev Meets SOCAR and bp on New Energy Projects
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on 13 May with Rovshan Najaf, President of Azerbaijan’s SOCAR, as well as representatives of British Petroleum, Ariel Flores and Giovanni Cristofoli, who arrived in Tashkent to participate in the “Uzbekistan Energy Week – 2026” forum, the presidential press service reported.
During the talks, the sides discussed prospects for expanding cooperation with SOCAR and British Petroleum, which are among the largest international players in the oil, gas, and energy sectors.
Special attention was given to the implementation of joint energy projects. The meeting noted that SOCAR is already participating as a partner of Uzbekistan in the development of hydrocarbon deposits on the Ustyurt plateau. It was also decided to open a representative office of the Azerbaijani company in Uzbekistan.
The president of Uzbekistan positively assessed British Petroleum’s accession to the project for the development of deposits in Ustyurt. The sides emphasized the importance of further advancing initiatives in exploration, production, and deep processing of hydrocarbon resources.
They also discussed issues related to long-term supplies of oil and petroleum products, as well as the training of qualified specialists for the oil and gas sector.
During the meeting, Rovshan Najaf, who also heads the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan, expressed gratitude to Shavkat Mirziyoyev for supporting joint preparations for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will be held in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan in 2027.
