Uzbekistan’s Mirziyoyev Attends Victory Day Parade in Moscow

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part on 9 May in ceremonial events in Moscow dedicated to the 81st anniversary of victory in World War II.

The Victory Day Parade was held on Red Square and was attended by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, the King of Malaysia Sultan Ibrahim, and other foreign leaders.

Following the parade, Mirziyoyev, together with Russian President Vladimir Putin and heads of foreign states, laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden. The ceremony concluded with a minute of silence and a parade of the honor guard.

In a statement, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan emphasized that victory in World War II was achieved at the cost of the courage and selflessness of millions of people, including a significant contribution from the multinational people of Uzbekistan.

At the beginning of the war, Uzbekistan’s population exceeded 6 million. During the war years, around 2 million residents were mobilized. More than 538,000 people were killed, and over 158,000 went missing.

More than 214,000 people from Uzbekistan were awarded military orders and medals. A total of 301 individuals were awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union, and 70 became full holders of the Order of Glory.

During the war, Uzbekistan also became a major evacuation hub. More than 170 industrial enterprises and over 1.5 million evacuees, including more than 250,000 orphaned children, were relocated to the republic.

Authorities in Uzbekistan note that work continues to preserve the memory of war veterans and home front workers. One of the symbols of this policy is the Victory Park memorial complex in Tashkent.

President Mirziyoyev’s working visit to Moscow concluded on 9 May. During the trip, he also held a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin before returning to Tashkent.
