Uzbekistan Senate to Hold Plenary Session on 18 May
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Council of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan has approved the convening of the upper chamber’s fifteenth plenary session, scheduled to take place on 18 May 2026.
According to the adopted resolution, senators will consider a broad range of legislative initiatives aimed at further improving the legal framework supporting reforms underway in the country.
The agenda includes draft laws related to the development of e-commerce, alignment of national legislation with World Trade Organization requirements, and strengthening protections for children’s rights and women affected by violence and harassment.
Senators will also review legislative initiatives designed to improve mechanisms for appeals by citizens and businesses to economic and administrative courts, develop the creative economy, increase the effectiveness of the digital labeling system, and enhance public administration in the field of cultural heritage.
Particular attention will also be given to issues related to regulating the circulation of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, as well as improving legislation on universal military service and military duty.
As part of parliamentary oversight, senators plan to discuss several key issues, including parliamentary inquiries to the Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services regarding the prevention of corruption and conflicts of interest in the construction sector.
The Senate will also consider inquiries to the Cabinet of Ministers regarding the monitoring of natural, technological, and environmental emergencies.
In addition, senators will hear a report from the Children’s Ombudsman on compliance by state bodies with child rights legislation in 2025.
The session will also review proposed changes to the composition of the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan and approve resolutions adopted by the Senate Council.
